What does a chemical peel involve?

A chemical peel is a procedure in which we apply an acidic solution to your skin that removes the top layer of dead skin cells. This allows your newer, healthier skin underneath to shine. It might sound intense, but the acids used for skin treatments are known as alpha-hydroxy acid (AHA) or beta-hydroxy acid (BHA). AHAs are water-soluble acids that come from sugary fruits. BHAs are oil-soluble acids derived from willow and sweet birch tree bark. They are safe for your skin!

Are there side effects of a chemical peel?

You may experience redness and inflammation after a chemical peel, followed by some flaking or dryness in the days following. These are normal and will go away as your skin heals.

Is skin sensitive to sunlight after a chemical peel?
Yes! It’s very important to wear sunscreen with at least SPF 30 every day for at least a week after a chemical peel, even when it’s cloudy outside. This is why we recommend having a chemical peel done between September and February, when sun exposure is typically minimal.
How often should I get a chemical peel?
It varies based on your specific skincare goals and concerns. We are happy to consult with you to find the perfect schedule for optimal results.
When will I see the results of my chemical peel?
Results will become apparent after your skin heals, which can vary from one to fourteen days depending on the treatment (deep peels take longer to heal).
